Managing Domains

Your domain name is the foundation of your online presence. Forgetting to renew it or missing a critical status update can lead to costly downtime or even the permanent loss of your web address.

The Domains Page in Pulsetic is your central command center for tracking the health, lifecycle, and expiration dates of your entire domain portfolio. This comprehensive guide will walk you through everything you can do on this page.

How Domain Monitoring Works (Introducing RDAP)

To reliably monitor your domain names, Pulsetic relies on RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol). Managed by IANA, RDAP is the modern, standardized successor to WHOIS. Because RDAP data is highly structured (unlike the unstructured text of older WHOIS lookups), Pulsetic can accurately fetch and display exactly what is happening with your domain.

Using RDAP, Pulsetic automatically checks your domain multiple times a day to determine:

Important Dates: We pull your exact Update Date, Registration Date, and Expiration Date.
Domain Status Codes: We fetch special attributes set by your registry (such as clientTransferProhibited, which signifies that your registry will automatically reject transfer requests to prevent domain theft). These codes are translated directly into the Status and Events you see in your dashboard. You'll find a list of all codes and their meaning on the EPP status codes page of Icann.

For country-code TLDs (ccTLDs) and registries that haven't fully migrated to RDAP, Pulsetic falls back to WHOIS. While WHOIS may return incomplete data (typically only status codes and registrar information), it provides basic coverage for ccTLDs where RDAP is not available.

Pulsetic verifies domain names every 24 hours.

How to Add a New Domain

Whether you are tracking one domain or a hundred, getting them into the system is quick and easy.

Navigate to the Domains page in your dashboard.

Click the Add Domain button.

In the pop-up window, enter the domain(s) you want to monitor.
- Bulk Add Tip: You can add multiple domains at once by separating them with a semicolon (e.g., example.com; mywebsite.org; shop.net ).
(Optional) Add Tags to help organize your portfolio (e.g., "Client Sites," "Internal," "E-commerce").
Click the Add Domains button to save.

Your domains will now populate in your main Domains list.

Managing Your Domain Portfolio

If you manage a large number of domains, the main dashboard provides powerful tools to organize, find, and update them in bulk.

Viewing and Sorting Options

Use the top toolbar to find exactly what you are looking for at a glance:

Search: Quickly find specific domains by typing their name or searching by their assigned tags.
Show (Filter): Isolate domains based on their current health. Filter by: Everything, Healthy, Warning, Expiring, Expired, Critical, or Paused.
Sort By: Organize your list by Newest First, Oldest First, Name (A-Z), Name (Z-A), Expiration Date, Registration Date, or Custom.

Bulk Actions

You don't need to update domains one by one.

Select multiple domains by clicking the individual checkboxes next to their names, or click the master checkbox in the Name header to select everything on the page.

Click the Bulk Actions dropdown menu.

From here, you can:
- Add tags: Apply a new tag to all selected domains.
- Pause: Temporarily halt monitoring for the selected domains.
- Delete: Permanently remove the selected domains from your account.
- Notifications: Instantly apply alert settings across all selected domains for channels like Email, SMS/Calls, Slack, Telegram, Twilio SMS, Twilio Voice, Webhook, SIGNL4, Discord, Mattermost, and Teams.

Navigating Individual Domain Details

To view deep analytics or adjust settings for a specific domain, you can either click on the domain name directly or click the ellipsis (three dots) on the right side of the row and select an option from the dropdown menu (Overview, Alerts, Edit Tags, Settings).

Once inside a domain's profile, you will find four main tabs:

A. Overview Tab

This is the heartbeat of your domain. It provides a real-time snapshot of its current standing.

Key Metrics: Instantly view the overall Status, Update Date, Expiration Date, and Last Check time.
Events Log: A chronological ledger showing recent lifecycle changes, broken down by Status, Details, Started, and Duration.

B. Alerts Tab

Never miss an expiration or status change. Here, you configure how and where you want to be notified. You can set up alerts via:

C. Settings Tab

Customize how the system tracks and displays your domain.

Display Name (Alias): Give your domain a friendly, optional name to help you identify it internally (e.g., "Main App Server" instead of app-server-01.com ).
Alert Settings: Check the boxes to define exactly which lifecycle events should trigger a notification:
- Enable Domain Expired Alerts
- Enable Domain Expiring Soon Alerts
- Enable Domain Critical Status Alerts

D. Delete Domain Tab

If you sell a domain or no longer need to track it, you can remove it here.

Warning:

Deleting a domain stops all monitoring and permanently wipes all associated data. This action cannot be undone.

To proceed with deletion, you must type the word delete into the confirmation box and click the Delete button.

Understanding Domain Statuses

Pulsetic uses strict color-coded statuses so you know exactly when action is required.

Healthy: Domain is active, operational, and has no issues requiring attention.
Warning: Domain either has serious issues requiring immediate action (suspension, missing DNS, redemption period) or is temporarily locked during routine operations (transfer, renewal, updates); recovery or resolution is possible.
Critical: Domain is in the final deletion phase and will be released for public registration within approximately 5 days; recovery is generally not possible at this stage.
Expiring: Domain expires within 14 days.
Expired: Domain expiration date has passed; currently in grace period where renewal is still possible.

Note:

While most TLDs offer RDAP access, ccTLDs often have limited RDAP support, and the data returned via WHOIS is usually restricted by the registry.
